STFC 35 – The Bull vs The Spainard

leadeboard stfc 35

When STFC 35 was first announced, the original card included a title defense by Fabian Saldivar but that was scratched due to the champ suffering an injury. Saldivar will return to the cage August 15 against a later to be announced fighter. The new main event for STFC 35 is Pharr, Texas’ native and STFC flyweight standout,  Sam “The Bull” Guardiola(4-1) taking on the Spaniard Andoni Rodriguez(0-0) from Barcelone, Spain.

The irony in a matchup between one fighter being nicknamed “The Bull” versus a fighter from Spain is apparent but what isn’t apparent is the skills of Adoni Rodriguez. STFC fans are very familiar with flyweight Guardiola. “The Bull” has speared through his last four opponents and is riding a win streak that dates back to February 2013. Guardiola hasn’t never seen a third round since his debut so I would expect him to give the fans another great performance. I’m not too familiar with Andoni Rodriguez and my inside source(Google) hasn’t produce enough results to give me enough feedback BUT that’s a good thing. It gives Rodriguez an aura of mystery and creates anticipation on what he is going to bring to the cage.

In the co-main event, the long waited STFC debut of pro boxing /pro MMA fighter and Combate Americas star Ricky Palacios(3-1, Mission, Texas) will take place against Ricardo Diaz(2-0, Montrerrey, MX). The theme of Texas versus the world continues in the bantamweight division should be in consideration for fight of the night when it concludes as both fighter’s wins come via KO/TKO. This will mark a near year layoff from MMA for Palacios when he enters the STFC cage against undefeated Diaz. Get your beer and popcorn during intermission cause this is one fight you aren’t going to want to miss!

Also gracing the STFC cage is Carlos Diego prospect, Guilherme Farias(2-0) taking on Mexico’s John Jimenez(1-0) in a battle of lightweights. It’s very possible if Farias has another impressive performance like he did at STFC 34, he could be taking on the newly crowned lightweight champion, Luke Flores. This would be setting up another battle of two of the best schools here in the valley, Team Ferreira versus Team Sitkayan. It goes without saying that this matchup would be HUGE but first thing is first, Farias has to get past John Jimenez.luke flores

STFC 35 is scheduled for 7 fights with talents such as jiu jitsu prodigy Roman Hernandez taking on Roldan Abundis from Brownsville, a clash of light heavyweights as Julio Viramontes takes on Tim Lashley, Isaac Matamoros from Mission taking on Michael DeLeon in a flyweight battle and opening the show will be David “The Combat Kid” Salazar looking for his elusive second victory against Jerry Rodriguez who will be making his pro debut. Tickets can be purchased from the fighters themselves, Mcallen Convention Center Box office and Ticketmaster. If you aren’t able to make it out for whatever reason, you can still catch the show on GoFightLive.tv on June 13 at 12pm for only $10! I beleive this is the first time STFC takes it’s product to a streaming service and I hope to see more of their future shows on GFL.TV. The site has been known forever to wrestling fans as a resource for providing top independent wrestling events so it’s great to see STFC link up with GFL to cater to their ever growing fanbase across the nation as the valley fighters keep making some noise here in the Rio Grande Valley.
