NORD promotions promoted this card as “…the best card the valley has seen in years! ” but on paper it really didn’t look like it. The headliners are both coming off losses and anybody who has seen Casarez’s last fights knows he’s been fighting on borrowed time for a few years. Molina had a surprisingly outstanding heavyweight title fight against Deontay Wilder even though he came away with a lose so I can’t fault him for taking a can in his attempt to climb the ranks.
Looking at the results, the card looked to be an easy night for the judges as only two fights went to the scorecards. The rest of the card had early finishes which should have made the crowd happy. I’ve yet to receive the attendance and gate for this show but NORD has had a good run of shows but most of those shows were co-promoted with Top Rank. That is not to imply that NORD needs Top Rank to promote their shows since boxing in the Valley is usually a hot ticket, especially when you have a card built around Valley fighters. There is no scheduled boxing events in the Valley for the rest of the year so if you missed the show and have an itch for some local boxing, I’d recommend checking out the 4th Annual Beto Carr Boxing Show on October 31 at the RGV Livestock Show Grounds which will have the stars of tomorrow on display. These shows are long but always fun- especially the little tots that step into the ring and bang away at each other.
