Eric “Drummer Boy” Molina Has a Opportunity of a Lifetime This Saturday in Corpus Christi

If you were to look at Eric Molina’s Facebook page you will notice his profile picture is a bold and fitting one. It shows a picture of Molina training with the caption “I’m Ready To Shock The World”. This Saturday in Corpus Christi one of the Valley’s own will be fighting for a chance to fight for the 12 pounds of gold that many children think about win they first lace up the gloves. But before Molina(18-1) has a chance to fight for the title against Vitali Klitschko he will have to go through fellow heavyweight title contender Chris Arreola (34-2).

On paper it looks like the 29 year-old Lyford graduate is going into the fight against Arreloa as a huge underdog. Just one look at Molina’s record will raise eyebrows since most of his competition have been sub-par boxers. His most recent fight in which he was victorious was probably his most competitive battle, record wise at least. I’ve followed the “Drummer Boy” ever since he was with Cavazos boxing but now that Molina has signed with Don King it seems like they are putting him in a better positions than his last promoter. King has given Molina national exposure on the under card of Cotto/Mayorga and Molina once again will be able to display his talents live on Showtime Extreme this Saturday. This will be Arreola’s sixth fight in the span of 13 months so conditioning and fatigue might take its course if this fight goes to the later rounds. The 31-year-old Arreola has already failed once in his attempt to capture gold from the other Klitschko in 2009 and once again looks to secure another title match.

Will this be Molina’s chance to “Shock the world” or will this encounter just be a stepping stone for Arreloa to return to the main stage for a title shot? Tune into Showtime Extreme to find out as this will serve as the first of a three fight night that will be headlined by Paul Williams vs Nobuhiro Ishida.
