- Both Josh Koscheck and Johny Hendricks have the common opponent of Mike Pierce. I think Hendricks slightly defeated Pierce, while I think Pierce should have gotten the decision over Koscheck. I think Koscheck’s striking is a bit overrated, Hendricks has been improving his striking on a fight by fight basis. It wasn’t too long ago that Hughes, of all people, was actually outstriking Koscheck before Koscheck finished him off. Hendricks’ knock out of Jon Fitch in :12 seconds was one of the great shocking moments of 2011. I don’t think Hendricks will knock out Koscheck like that, but he will badly hurt Koscheck at some point in the fight and I see him winning the fight. I hope he celebrates with a lot of Baconators.
- Rousimar Palhares vs Alan Belcher should be fantastic. Belcher lost a disputed decision loss to Akiyama back at UFC 100, if he would have won that decision,he would have been on a 6 fight win streak. After that Akiyama loss, he beat Gouveia, piledrove and choked out Cote, and punched Jason MacDonald in the face until he gave up. Belcher is really good striker, but Palhares is a beast. Palhares isn’t going to allow Belcher to pick him apart, he’s going to try to get the fight to the ground as soon as possible. Then when the fight is on the ground, he’s going to try to rip Belcher’s leg off. I don’t think Belcher is going to be able to escape the clutches of Palhares. I see the Murilo Bustamante protegé walking away with another leglock victory.
- Technically, Pat Barry is superior to Lavar Johnson. But like the recent Hominick-Yagin fight showed, sometimes the level of power behind a punch can be the difference maker. The way that Johnson knocked out Beltran was frightening. The major weakness of both guys is their submission defense, but I doubt the fight will go to the ground. I don’t think this fight will go past the 1st round, and it’s going to be a stoppage via strikes. I slightly favor Barry due to being a sharper in his striking.
