Preview: UFC on FUEL 1 Main Event

I still feel that Ellenberger should have gotten a draw in his fight with Carlos Condit back in 2009. That very first round where Ellenberger nearly finished Condit was a clear 10-8 round in my eyes. He was on a four fight win streak at that point, then got dealt a loss but now is on a five fight win streak. His last two finishes against Sean Pierson and Jake Shields were brutal endings. If Ellenberger beats Sanchez, I would love to see him fight Carlos Condit in a rematch for the interim championship.

Sanchez is one of the toughest guys around, just look at that picture from his last fight with Kampmann above this text and you’ll see how hard he is to finish. Penn finished him via cut stoppage after Sanchez took an insane beating. Early in his career he was able to use his wrestling to beat a lot of good competition. But everyone’s wrestling defense has gotten better at this point. If Shields couldn’t take Ellenberger down in his last fight, I don’t see Sanchez doing it either in the first round. Diego’s toughness, pace, and cardio are his best weapons at this point. If Sanchez is able to endure some insane beating in the first round, Ellenberger could get tired and maybe give Sanchez an advantage in the later rounds. This could be a great fight.
