Update on Ultimate Warrior Fighting Tournament Happening in One Week in Corpus Christi

If there is one pet peeve I have MMA , it has to be that special caption on the bottom of the poster that reads “Card Subject to Change”. I just wish one time there would be a promotion that would just say “Sh#t happens so don’t count on this being the final card”. A little honesty goes a long way with me.

UWF is no stranger to changing up its fight cards so it shouldn’t be a surprise to see another change in the card with only a few weeks left till the tournament starts. When we last reported on the tournament, valley favorite, Joseph Daily, was slated to appear in the summer tournament but with his last performance on the undercard of Bellator, not only did he lose his fight but he also came in overweight which is a cardinal sin in the MMA world. Nothing says “unprofessional” more than having a weight issue when you are due up for battle.

Weslaco’s Daily getting scratched out of the $25K winner take all summer clash is not the only change that has occurred. In my recent research of the UWF, it seems that the promotion will no longer have their grand finale at the State Farm Arena. Corpus Christi will be the start of the tournament and if things don’t change, like they always do, Corpus Christi will be the host to the crowning of the tournament champs. The new, tentative bracket with the lastest additions are below:

Lightweight Tournament
Gilbert Jimenez (5-4-1) vs. Scott Cleve (8-2)
Flavio Alvaro (14-5) vs. Chris Quitiquit (4-1)
Rey Trujillo (9-6) vs. Christopher Pecero (4-3)
Victor Hernandez (8-13) vs. Hector Munoz (10-4)

Welterweight Tournament

Larry Hopkins (3-10) vs. John Malbrough (3-2)
Mitchell Whitesel (19-20) vs. Chuck Parmalee (33-13)
Shamar Bailey (13-6) vs. Lucas Pimenta (14-7)
Justin Gutherie (14-4) vs. Jonathon Knutson (9-4)

Some of the records may cause eye sores and might even turn some people off but it very well could end up a great tournament. Let’s hope that series lives up to the hype and the hard work that UWF CEO Enriquez is putting forth plans out the way he visioned.
