Dana White On Pacquiao vs Marquez IV

Scott Christ and Brent Brookhouse already wrote excellent pieces about this over at their highly respected blogs. Here is what Dana White said about the Pacquiao vs Marquez IV fight:

“Dumbest fight in history. Bob Arum is a moron. You don’t take that fight, you idiot. Why would you do that fight? It’s all about the money, that’s why. That was a money fight, that’s what that fight was done for. He should have fought Bradley. Bradley’s the fight they should have done. He would have knocked Bradley out, he would have got his belt back and now he’s back in the position he should have been in. [Pacquiao’s] one of the best fighters in the world. He goes out and fights Marquez again? Bob Arum is the dumbest promoter in the history of the world.”

Where I come from, we call this, acting mamon. We just happened to see one of the greatest boxing fights of all time, a definite “Fight of the Year Contender” for 2012 (for many, including myself, it’s a no brainer for that award). It was for sure the “Knockout of the Year”, and the culmination of an 8 1/2 story that could not be scripted any better. The level of emotional reasonance that this fight had with fans of all races and creeds was something special. And Dana White is calling it, “Dumbest fight in history.” Again, where I came from, we say, “no mames guey”.

It was not only a major financial success, it was an artistic success on every possible level. Everyone that saw it that night, would not have preferred a one sided Pacquiao fight over what will be remembered as a legendary night by boxing enthusiasts. The only exception being if you’re a superfan of Pacquiao or someone close to him. This will go in the pile of embarrassing Dana White moments, this quote will reside right alongside the time Dana viciously attacked Dave Meltzer or the time Dana went way too far on Loretta Hunt. This quote on this great boxing fight wasn’t as malicious as those moments, but it sure is as ridiculous as those moments.
