On March 1st, STFC will return to the McAllen Convention Center for another showcase of mixed martial arts action. The main event tonight involves Houston’s David Armas (5-9) taking on STFC featherweight champion Javier Obregon (6-8). Armas talked to us this past week.

TGS: Your first fight in the Rio Grande Valley was at STFC 26 (09/06/2013) How was your first experience in the Valley like?

Armas: It was great. I love it down here. I love fighting down here. It’s a great experience. The promoters take care of me. My sponsors take care of me, it’s great.

TGS: How did it feel to beat an established Rio Grande Valley fighter like Luis Vega?

Armas: It felt great man, cause really, I felt like i was brought in to lose that fight. I trained hard and I won. I couldn’t ask for a better outcome. It was the best feeling in the world.

TGS: You then fought Saul Elizondo at STFC 27 (11/1/13). It was a close, competitive fight, what did you take away from that fight, and how do you feel about your performance?

Armas: I thought he won the fight, but I went back and looked at it, I don’t know man, I think it could have went either way. He was a good fighter, he came to fight that night, and the best man won that night.

TGS: This will be your third fight in the Valley, it seems like you’re already well known here. Do you feel you’re establishing yourself as a name in the Valley MMA scene?

Armas: It feels great, man. I love it down here. I have a bunch of friends, you know. I have Carlos Ferreira down here, Victor [Martinez]. They take me in like I’m one of their own. I love coming down here.

TGS: Can you tell us a bit about how the training is going and who you’re training with to prepare for this upcoming fight?

Armas: Training is going great. I’m training with Macaco back home. I’m training with Jason David Frank. I’m training with Bobby Flores and Gene Moreno, my boxing, they push me every day. Every day is more and more, I’m not just settling for less. I’m not just training average, I’m pushing myself more and more. I’m in the best shape of my life right now, and I can’t wait for tomorrow night.

TGS: What would you say is the strongest aspect of your fight skills?

Armas: My stand-up, my muay thai.

TGS: You think we are going to see a showcase of that tomorrow night?

Armas: Yeah showcase, tomorrow night, for sure!

TGS: How familiar are you with your opponent?

Armas: I’ve seen videos of him. He’s pretty good. His fight style is similar to mine. I think both our styles make for an exciting fight tomorrow.

TGS: How much would it mean to you to win this STFC championship belt?

Armas: It would mean the world to me, man. I can’t even explain how it would feel to me. It would be the best feeling. I can’t even imagine right now. If God’s willing, I’ll be the champion tomorrow.

TGS: Anything you would like to say to your opponent?

Armas: See you tomorrow night.

TGS: Anything you would like to say to the fans who are going to attend the fight?

Armas: Thank you all for coming out. I look forward to putting on a show for all of you tomorrow night.

TGS: Thank you a lot

Armas: Thank you.
