Leo Santa Cruz defeats Alberto Guevara

In the first live boxing fight on network television in fifteen years, Leo Santa Cruz defeated Alberto Guevara via unanimous decision. On his way to the ring, Santa Cruz walked to the ring sporting his take on Santa Claus’ wardrobe, as a way to  show his Christmas spirit.

Guevara used his busy hands and quick feet to make Cruz struggle early on. Guevara was moving around like Fred Astaire and landing solid punches from good angles. So at first, Cruz wasn’t able to use his heavy workrate style.

As the fight progressed, Cruz’s blows and power punches took over the fight. It was an entertaining fight, thunderous shots by both fighters at times. In the second half of the fight, Guevara just wasn’t able to do what he accomplished in the first few frames. The underdog Guevara exceeded expectations but the IBF bantamweight champion proved to be the superior fighter as the fight was coming to an end.

Later tonight, Amir Khan will attempt to bounce back with a win against Carlos Molina on Showtime.
