It’s fight week! No, I’m not talking about the Mayweather/McGregor spectacle happening Saturday, I’m talking Strike League’s “Rumble at the Rock” happening this Friday! The promotion is back with a blockbuster event that is headlined by a rematch of two of Texas’ MMA trailblazers and great undercard featuring local Austin talent.
When it comes to veterans in the sport of MMA, look no further than Duece King and Nick Gonzalez. These two men have set the way for MMA in Texas and were around when the sport was still on the come up. Between both fighters, they have a total of 64 fights and 27 years of experience. There is no doubt the years of fighting have taken a toll on both men as evident by King’s announcement that this fight will be his last. The 11-year MMA veteran is looking to ride into the sunset with his hand raised, something he hasn’t experienced since 2011. King’s most recent fight occurred for Bellator where he came up short against Rey Trujillo putting his losing skid at seven fights. Gonzalez hasn’t been as active as King but did manage to pick up a win in his last outing for Bellator, the same card that King fought on.
This main event will be a rematch from their first encounter in 2008 for the King of the Kombat promotion that saw Gonzalez getting the victory. The rest of the story can be seen in the video below with both fighters giving their take on the fight on their rivalry.

Gonzalez stated in an interview with the Loaded Joe’s MMA Podcast that he wants to end this fight early. The previous fight only went the distance because King’s actions in the build to the fight got personal and Gonzalez wanted to make him pay for it, according to Gonzalez. The war of words certainly has increased the anticipation of this fight and many expect it to be nothing short of a brawl.
The undercard of the event is laced with top prospects and hungry new comers looking to make a name for themselves. Scheduled to appear is Sean “Wildman” Clements who looks to rebound from his first professional defeat against the debuting Arron Cortez. Killeen’s own “Samoan Savage” will be looking to keep his two fight win streak going against Kyle Simpson who is also riding his own two fight win streak.
In other action, the highly touted Wiliam Blair will be making his professional. Blair has been styling and profiling since 2011 capturing two titles in two different weight divisions during his amateur run. Also appearing on the card fresh off a Combate Americas appearance is Robert Casper who will be matched up with Peter Caballero. Both fighters are looking to rebound from a loss. There will be plenty of action going down at the Round Rock Sports Center this Friday so get those tickets because tickets are limited.
